Andre Akkari of PokerStars became the latest and second Brazilian champion in WSOP history, winning his first bracelet and $675,117 in Las Vegas after defeating 2,856 players to win the third-to-last $1,500 NLHE event of 2011. Akkari is one of Brazil ’s most popular tournament poker players who have been attending the WSOP for the last four years.
Andre Akkari’s win marks second WSOP bracelet for Brazil ; Alexandre Gomes claimed the first in 2008 after taking down the $2,000 NLHE championship. The most impressive part of anything related to UB poker would have to be how well the total package comes together.
The 36-year-old Akkari got off to the best possible start at the final table went on to removed Jacob Naquin in 4th, before ultimately going heads-up next to Nachman Berlin. And soon Berlin was eliminated to the runner-up position worth $419,173.
In the meantime, Akkari claimed the WSOP bracelet and achieved major honor for Brazilian poker. Akkari has now amassed $938,766 from live tournaments, on top of $2.2 million more playing online.
